A Brief History of Action Moving Company
In 1993, Thomas Shanks started his own business with one truck and the desire to provide an alternative to the "high priced" established moving companies. Business quickly grew to the point where Tom had to buy another truck in order to help advertise his small business. He put lettering on the outside of his trucks. The large moving companies quickly complained to the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission to have Tom shut down! The large moving companies have the blessing from the state to have a monopoly, (even though State Constitution, Article 1, Section 2 prohibits monopolies)fix their prices, and not have any competition.
The Washington State Government is still hard at work making sure the citizens of the state pay some of the highest rates in the country to move furniture. Every dollar that you spend with the large moving companies (Mayflower, Allied, Hanson Brothers, All My Sons, Starving Students, and all of the other pirates) is working hard to continue this system of taxation without representation. Would you like it if the state told you that you had to pay a plumber $150 dollars per hour? Or how about the state telling you that your hair stylist had to be paid $80 per hour? Isn't that ridiculously illegal? You bet it is.
Tom firmly believes that the state has no more right to set moving rates than setting the price of a haircut! For an example, what about recent initiative I-695, the taxation of one's vehicles on public roads? Whether you were for it or against it, the bottom line is that the state was way overcharging the citizens of the state for registering their vehicles, and most of the funds collected for this over-taxation were mysteriously unaccounted for anyways.
In the last few years, we have had a dramatic growth in business. Action Moving is located in North Seattle. Tom has worked hard to provide a quality service for a fair price. You would think in this day, a small business that pays taxes and provides employment would be welcomed by state officials. But not in Washington! Your elected officials and state bureaucrats want to continue the "Status Quo", and accept more large election contributions from the moving industry.
We sincerely appreciate your trust in choosing Action Moving. We would also ask that you take a moment to call the governor's office or elected state representative at the numbers listed below and let them know that you want Tariff 15, (Household Goods) repealed.
